The Alphington Community Centre celebrated three 90s birthdays at our Community Lunch on Thursday 20th of May. Congratulations to Tom turning 94, Nora turning 92 and Nancy turning 90.

Nancy, a concert pianist from the big band era, entertained our guests on the keyboard, and Tom sang several Irish tunes.

At our Christmas lunch every year, Nora brings along a huge and magnificent trifle to share.

Tom, Nora and Nancy are an inspiration to us all!

Over 14,000 women and men congregated at the MCG on the 7th of May 2010 to create a sparkling Pink Lady silhouette recognising all Australians who have been affected by breast cancer. Several of the Alphington Community Centre's Committee of Management, friends and supporters got involved and had a wonderful night!

On Sunday 11 April 2010, the Mayor Cr Jane Garrett and Councillors of the City of Yarra presented a brand new pavilion and upgrades to the historic Kevin Crehan grandstand in Alphington Park.

The pavilion features four change rooms (that can be connected to create one large meeting room), a kitchen, two bathrooms and a unisex, accessible change room.

A new paved, undercover pathway connects the pavilion to the old grandstand which has been refurbished to include two umpires' change rooms, a first aid room and an area to store food and kitchen equipment.

The extra space is a bonus to the Alphington Community Centre, which will use the pavilion and grandstand for meetings and community activities, including cooking classes.

The community fundraiser for the Alphington Pantry, who were recently burgled and set fire to, was held on Saturday 27 March and raised almost five thousand dollars. A sausage sizzle and cake stall was enjoyed by our community who came from everywhere to express their support.

Special thanks to our neighbourhood traders: Bill and Louie the butchers, Johnny F's Fruit & Vegies and Becky and Phong from the milkbar.

Many of our local artists and traders generously donated items for our silent auction.
